The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Monday in response to Russian attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea.
The meeting will begin at 10:00 Eastern Time (17:00 Kyiv time), according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
The discussion was requested by Ukraine on July 20 and was supported by European members of the Security Council – France, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Greece, and Latvia.
UN Secretariat briefers are expected to include UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs chief Kyoko Gotoh, as well as Acting Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Indrika Ratwatte.
The Ukrainian letter to the Security Council leadership highlighted Russia’s large-scale missile and drone attack on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities overnight on July 18–19. It stressed that Russian forces have been increasingly targeting Ukrainian Black Sea ports, maritime export routes, and commercial shipping.
During recent attacks on the Odesa region and port facilities, several foreign-flagged vessels were damaged, and ten sailors were killed.

As reported by Ukrinform, Ukraine requested an urgent UN Security Council meeting on July 27 in response to Russian attacks on freedom of navigation in the Black Sea.
