The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has launched the Japan-Ukraine Tech Co-Creation Project, a new initiative aimed at fostering partnerships between Ukrainian and Japanese technology companies.

The Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine said this in a statement seen by Ukrinform.

The project focuses on five key areas: e-government, robotics, cybersecurity, unmanned technologies, and artificial intelligence.

The initiative is designed to support the development of joint business solutions and practical projects between companies from the two countries. The program is limited to civilian applications of technology. Projects involving military use or the development of lethal weapons are not eligible.

Ukrainian participants will have the opportunity to take part in business matchmaking with Japanese partners, join a business mission to Japan, and receive funding to implement joint proof-of-concept (PoC) projects. The program is expected to support up to three Ukrainian-Japanese projects with a combined budget of approximately $200,000.

Registration for the program will remain open until mid-August 2026.

Separate deadlines apply to specific stages of the initiative. Registration for an online pitching event for Ukrainian companies, scheduled for July 28, is open until July 10, while applications for a business mission to Japan, planned for October, will be accepted until July 24.

As reported, since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Japanese government has provided Ukraine with a total of $20 billion in assistance.
