The British government has publicly disclosed the existence of four operational military repair workshops located on Ukrainian territory, the UK government website reports.

A fifth facility is planned. The workshops, operating under contracts with the UK Ministry of Defence, employ both Ukrainian and British workers and are designed to return damaged equipment to the front line as quickly as possible.

UK Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry Luke Pollard, who presented footage from the workshops, described the scope of repairs: “These facilities repair armoured vehicles and equipment – including UK-gifted CVR-T armoured vehicles, Husky support vehicles, L119 light guns and former Soviet-era kit, returning them to Ukrainian forces faster.” The facilities also handle British AS-90 self-propelled howitzers and are equipped to service Swedish Archer artillery systems.

The strategic logic behind the in-country location is straightforward: proximity to the front reduces the time equipment spends out of action. According to the UK government, placing repair capacity inside Ukraine, rather than routing damaged hardware back to Britain or other allied countries, shortens the turnaround cycle substantially.

“From the factory floor to the front line, the United Kingdom stands alongside Ukraine,” Pollard said, as quoted on the UK government website. “Our innovative facilities help the steadfast Armed Forces of Ukraine fight Putin’s brutal attacks, while British firms are stimulating long-term industrial production in Ukraine and working with Ukrainian companies for the benefit of both our countries.”

The disclosure comes as the UK has committed more than £21.8 billion to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion began. In November last year, the UK Ministry of Defence confirmed the transfer of all 99 AS-90 self-propelled howitzers that remained in British service. The government has also announced plans to open a Ukraine Business Center in Kyiv in 2026, intended to help British defence startups supply more military equipment to Ukraine, according to reporting by Oboronnka.
