Ukrainian Defense Intelligence has exposed Russia’s dependence on foreign technologies in shipbuilding, opening a new front for sanctions pressure. The agency has published information on 50 units of foreign equipment used by Russian shipbuilding and ship repair enterprises.

The data was presented on the War&Sanctions portal in the “Instruments of War” section.

The list includes CNC machines, machining centers, robotic production lines, and other foreign-made equipment used at key industry enterprises.

Among the enterprises using this equipment are Kronstadt Marine Plant, which services Russian Navy ships; Sevmash, where nuclear submarines are built; and Baltic Shipyard, a manufacturer of nuclear icebreakers and military vessels.

“Restricting access to foreign equipment is a necessary condition for reducing the aggressor’s potential,” intelligence officials emphasize.

Despite the fact that Ukraine’s Defense Forces have forced the Russian Black Sea Fleet to operate with limitations and remain in more remote areas, the aggressor state’s shipbuilding industry continues to be an important instrument of its military presence.

Ukraine calls on allies to cut off supply channels for Russian fleet

The Ukrainian Defense Intelligence notes that limiting access to components, technical fluids, and software could significantly reduce Russia’s ability to restore and develop its naval capabilities.

This is particularly important in the context of potential Russian activity in other regions, including the Baltic Sea.

The agency is calling on international partners to strengthen sanctions enforcement, prevent circumvention, and introduce accountability mechanisms for companies that supply equipment to Russia’s military-industrial complex.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that Russia earned around $10 billion in the first two weeks of the Middle East war, partially reversing months of Western sanctions pressure. 

Before the US and Israeli strikes on Iran on 28 February, Russia’s finances were under more pressure than at any point since the invasion began.
