Uzbekistan plans to increase supply of electricity to Afghanistan

AKIPRESS.COM – Afghanistan is fully fulfilling its payment obligations for the supply of electricity from Uzbekistan, and the further expansion of bilateral cooperation is planned, kun.uz reported, citing Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov.

“Cooperation with Afghanistan is developing very well. I have been there three times in the last two months. They have a desire for development, for strengthening their economy. And that is impossible without energy resources,” he said.

“Afghanistan is fulfilling its obligations for the payment of supplied electricity. After the current government came to power, they also fully paid off the debts of the previous administration. As the head of our company noted, there are no delays or problems with the payment for electricity consumed by Afghanistan,” the Minister said.

Furthermore, Mirzamakhmudov announced the start of the project to construct the Puli-Khumri power transmission line.

“We continue to expand cooperation. Lines have already been laid and substations expanded up to Surkhandarya region. Now, work is underway on a new 500 kV line called Puli-Khumri. We signed the contract in September, and the project has now begun. An agreement has been reached to complete all work within 18 months. After the project is completed, electricity export to Afghanistan will increase several times,” the Minister of Energy added.
