UN Office on Drugs and Crime to open branch in Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM – Prime Minister of Mongolia Zandanshatar Gombojav met with United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mongolia Jaap van Hierden on December 10, Montsame reported.

The two sides exchanged views on accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and on preparations for hosting the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, scheduled to take place in Mongolia in August 2026.

Prime Minister Zandanshatar noted that the government of Mongolia attaches great importance to its relations and cooperation with the United Nations.

The PM noted that, within the framework of implementing the UN Convention against Corruption, the government has initiated a draft resolution aimed at increasing transparency in the financing of election candidates, political parties, and election campaigns.

He added that Mongolia is working to establish a regional office of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the country.

UN Resident Coordinator emphasized that the UN stands ready to provide full support in resolving Mongolia’s pressing social and economic challenges and in successfully organizing the 17th Conference of the Parties.

He also expressed the UN’s commitment to prioritizing cooperation in reducing social inequality, creating jobs, and supporting the country’s energy and digital transitions.
