Neurologist warns of global rise in spinal disorders due to sedentary lifestyles
AKIPRESS.COM – Neurologist and vertebrologist Andrey Ratinov stated on the Birinchi Radio that by the year 2050, 300 million more people will suffer from spinal diseases than today.
He explained that back pain and spinal disorders are frequently linked to sedentary lifestyles, noting that back pain is currently the leading cause of disability and loss of work capacity. The doctor detailed how the spine’s natural curvature is designed for shock absorption and weight distribution; however, constant phone use causes the neck’s inward curve, or lordosis, to shift into an outward curve, or kyphosis, leading to physical deformity.
Ratinov also mentioned research suggesting that the new generation of children is developing specialized muscles to better support the head in a tilted position.
According to the physician, this indicates that the human body is attempting to adapt, with evolution beginning to create tools for the body to withstand the physical strain caused by constant sitting.
To prevent injuries and excessive strain, he advised engaging in regular exercise, joint warm-ups, and maintaining an active lifestyle.
For those with office jobs or sedentary routines, he recommended walking frequently before or after work and emphasized that patients with herniated discs should never ignore pain but should seek medical attention immediately.
