Minister of Finance and ADB President discuss development of energy and construction of Kambar-Ata HPP-1
AKIPRESS.COM – Within the framework of the 59th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank taking place on May 2-6 in Samarkand, a meeting was held between Minister of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Suinaliev and ADB President Masato Kanda, the press service of the Ministry of Finance reported.
According to the head of the ADB, the overall portfolio of joint initiatives for 2026 includes major projects aimed at developing the energy sector, including the Kambar-Ata Hydropower Plant with a capacity of 1,880 MW. The role of the Kyrgyz Republic as a regional hub within the CAREC initiative was also highlighted. The ADB President noted that in September 2026 a ministerial conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the CAREC initiative will be held in Ulaanbaatar, and expressed hope for the participation of the Kyrgyz side.
In turn, Minister Suinaliev stated that cooperation with the ADB is yielding results reflected in the country’s stable macroeconomic indicators. According to him, over the past 4–5 years the economy has shown steady growth, and in 2025 macroeconomic growth exceeded 11%. Positive dynamics continued in the first quarter of 2026.
During the meeting, the officials also discussed the upcoming framework agreement and prospects for further expansion of bilateral cooperation.
