Magnitude 6.1 quake strikes northwestern Turkey
AKIPRESS.COM – An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck northwestern Turkey at 7:55 PM on August 10, according to sondakika.com.
The earthquake’s epicenter was in Sındırgı district of Balıkesir province, with a depth of 11 km.
One building collapsed in Sındırgı, and the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported that four people were rescued from the rubble.
Following the initial quake, three aftershocks were recorded, with magnitudes of 4.6, 4.1, and 4.0.
Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that one person died and 29 were injured as a result of the earthquake. A total of 16 buildings collapsed.
