Four resorts in Issyk-Kul temporarily closed for violating environmental regulations
AKIPRESS.COM – Four resorts on Lake Issyk-Kul were temporarily closed for violating wastewater discharge regulations, chief inspector of the Bioresources Control Department of the State Environmental and Technical Safety Service Azamat Bokeshov said on August 18.
According to Bokeshov, inspections have been conducted in 29 rural municipalities across Issyk-Kul region since June. These inspections resulted in warnings and fines for individuals and legal entities, ranging from 5,500 to 50,000 soms. The total amount of fines issued to individuals for littering was 155,000 soms. Bokeshov noted that the number of fines has significantly increased this year because regulatory bodies are working in an enhanced mode.
He stated that although daily monitoring has been in place since June, the 10 employees currently assigned to the task are insufficient to regularly monitor the entire region.
Bokeshov also mentioned that regulatory agencies are conducting preventive awareness campaigns with both tourists and businesses. Violators are first given a warning, and fines are issued for repeat offenses. The biggest problems are found in popular recreation areas, where tourists not only litter but also burn their trash.
