Foreign Minister of Mongolia meets with IAEA Director General
AKIPRESS.COM – Foreign Minister of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh held a meeting with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi in Vienna, Austria, the Mongolian Foreign Ministry reported.
During the meeting, Battsetseg Batmunkh expressed her concerns about the state of the international nuclear non-proliferation regime. She said that since 1992, when Mongolia declared its territory a nuclear-weapon-free zone, the country has consistently supported international efforts to strengthen peace and security.
Rafael Grossi emphasized the significance of Mongolia’s status as a nuclear-weapon-free state. He highly appreciated Mongolia’s active participation in ensuring nuclear non-proliferation and physical security, adding that the ratification of the Convention on Nuclear Safety and the 2005 Amendments to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material is an important contribution to global nuclear security.
The parties noted that more than 100 national projects have been implemented in the spheres of health, food, agriculture, ecology, mining, education, and science within the framework of the Technical Cooperation Program.
IAEA representatives expressed their readiness to further develop cooperation with Mongolia in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The Mongolian delegation invited Director General Rafael Grossi to visit the country and expressed a desire to deepen bilateral relations.
