First robotic-assisted surgery performed at National Cancer Center of Mongolia
AKIPRESS.COM – The National Cancer Center of Mongolia performed its first-ever robotic-assisted surgery on December 28, marking a milestone in its operative treatment services. Mongolia has become the 70th country in the world to localize and implement robotic surgery, Montsame reported, citing the Ministry of Health.
Preparatory work to introduce robotic surgical treatment in Mongolia has been carried out continuously over the past three years. Robotic surgery provides surgeons with a “third hand”, enabling highly precise operations. Once fully localized, it will also make it possible to perform surgeries remotely with the support of ultra-high-speed internet connectivity.
Mongolia has cooperated with the Korean Liver Transplantation Society in introducing robotic surgery. Minister of Health Chinburen Jigjidsuren stated that efforts are being made to ensure that Mongolian citizens do not fall behind global medical advances and are not burdened financially due to illness.
The Minister also noted that the foundation for successfully introducing robotic surgical technology was laid by the development of laparoscopic surgery over the past 20 years.
A project titled Establishing the Cancer Prevention and Early Detection National Network has been implemented in three phases since 2021, with financing of 10 million euros under a loan agreement between the government of Mongolia and the government of Austria.
As a result of the initiative, the Center has acquired advanced diagnostic and treatment equipment, including a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, computed tomography (CT) scanner, angiography suite, and an AI-supported digital mammography system.
