Turkish police detained two journalists after they filmed and livestreamed near İncirlik Air Base, a Turkish military facility that also hosts US forces under bilateral arrangements, according to a statement from the Anka news agency.
The detentions followed a roughly 90-minute live broadcast posted on social media showing activity around the base, which is located near the southern city of Adana.
The Adana Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said it had opened an investigation on its own initiative, arguing that publicly sharing images that reveal the location, security measures or physical layout of military facilities can pose a risk to national security.
Three people were taken into custody as part of the investigation, including the two journalists.
The case unfolded as tensions rose across the Middle East after US and Israeli strikes on Iran and Iran’s announced retaliation, a backdrop that has heightened sensitivity around installations linked to US regional operations.
