Two men were shot dead by police around 2 pm today  after an alleged robbery attempt in Mt Hope involving a Facebook Marketplace meeting.

Reports indicate the men met the intended victim along Community Drive, Mt Hope, and attempted to rob him of an undisclosed sum of money. The victim had alerted police, prompting an intelligence-led operation.

Officers later intercepted the suspects’ vehicle along Maingot Road. During the confrontation, two of the men reportedly opened fire on police, who returned fire.

One suspect died on the driveway of a nearby homeowner, while the second died in a nearby river. Both remain unidentified.

A third man was injured during the incident and remains hospitalised under police guard. Investigations are continuing.
