“Tobago Moves” Launched To Boost Cancer Awareness

The Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society is partnering with Republic Bank Limited and the Division of Health and Wellness to launch “Tobago Moves”.

This is a cancer awareness initiative that combines physical exercise and educational ventures to help persons understand the need for regular cancer screening.

RBL Business Development Officer Arielle Joseph says early detection is crucial in the battle against cancer, and this is why they partnered to make “Tobago Moves” a reality.

“For us, making a difference is not just a statement, it is our responsibility. Our commitment is also guided by our alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 3, good health and well-being.”

THA Secretary of Health and Wellness, Dr. Faith Brebnor, welcomed the cooperation, noting it is a job the public sector cannot do alone.

“It requires the private sector to do its part, and, in essence, to use some of those additional fees that they are charging us to do their part, I am not looking in the direction of any bank, it requires health professionals to do our part.”

This initiative is not meant only for good optics, according to Dr. Brebnor, tangible results must be shown for the effort.

“So we are going to be a little bit more difficult, we are going to be a little bit more demanding, we are going to ask you about your behavioural models, and we are going to be speaking more critically about why you are doing what you are doing.”

‘Tobago Moves’ will occur on July 11th with a 5K run and a high-energy burnout session, along with a ceremony focused on cancer awareness with testimonies from cancer survivors.
