Police Probe Death Of Three-Week-Old Baby In Point Fortin

A three-week-old baby boy, Nikolai Andrews, of Mahaica, Point Fortin, died after being taken to hospital on Thursday night.

Police said the infant was brought to the Point Fortin Hospital around 8:15pm after experiencing repeated vomiting and breathing difficulties at home.

Despite medical attention, he became unresponsive shortly after arrival and was pronounced dead at around 8:30pm.

According to relatives, the child had shown previous signs of illness but initially appeared alert.

On Thursday evening, after another episode of vomiting and distress, the baby was taken back to hospital, where he later died.

Medical personnel indicated the preliminary cause of death is suspected to be asphyxiation, pending post-mortem results.

No foul play is suspected.
