Taiwan is helping Palau prepare to host next year’s Pacific Islands Forum, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung said on Saturday.
Lin, who was on a trip to Palau, called the Pacific island nation a “steadfast friend” and said Taiwan must help it successfully host the annual PIF.
Striving for regional peace and prosperity through diversity, inclusiveness and cooperation are the long-standing principles of the “Pacific Way” emphasised by the forum, he added.
In September, the Solomon Islands blocked Taiwan, the U.S, China, and 21 other donor countries from the 2025 Pacific Islands Forum.
Taiwan has tailored its Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project to the actual needs of diplomatic partners and aligned it with their sustainable national development goals, Lin said.
In Palau, the initiative includes digital development, energy, and resilience.
The foreign minister said he accompanied Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr and Minister of State Gustav Aitaro to PIF venues, including the Ngarachamayong Cultural Centre and the National Stadium.
Under preliminary plans, Taiwan will assist Palau in establishing green transportation systems to ferry visiting dignitaries during the PIF, Lin said.
After the forum, these services will continue to benefit locals and contribute to the country’s environmental sustainability goals.
Lin said Taiwan will work with Palau and other like-minded partners to guarantee that the Pacific’s diversity and inclusiveness become a source of strength.
