Miss Heilala contestants draw interview topics for 2026 pageant

Fifteen contestants in the Miss Heilala 2026 Pageant have drawn their order of appearance and interview topics, marking a key step in the lead-up to one of Tonga’s most popular cultural events.

The draw took place during the pageant’s Orientation Programme today, with contestants receiving topics ranging from climate change and mental health to tourism, education, technology and the cost of living.

The subjects will form the basis of their pre-pageant interviews, where contestants are expected to demonstrate knowledge, confidence and critical thinking on issues affecting Tonga, the Pacific and the wider world.

Among the topics assigned were climate change, youth unemployment, domestic violence, digital safety, drug trafficking and labour shortages linked to Pacific seasonal employment schemes. Other contestants will address tourism, health, indigenous culture preservation and the economic impacts of international political conflict.

The Miss Heilala Pageant is a central feature of the annual Heilala Festival, which this year forms part of a broader celebration of Tonga’s culture, heritage and national identity.

Organisers have described the interviews as an opportunity for contestants to showcase leadership qualities and community awareness beyond the traditional pageant categories.

According to Tonga Tourism, the official pre-pageant interview is scheduled for 30 June and is the first judged category of the competition. Contestants will also compete in Tauʻolunga, talent, sarong and other cultural categories before the crowning night in early July.

Organisers congratulated all 15 contestants and wished them success as they continue their Miss Heilala journey representing their sponsors, communities and families throughout the festival season.
