Tajikistan Presented Energy Priorities at CAREC-2026 in Mongolia

At CAREC-2026 in Mongolia, Tajikistan confirmed its interest in expanding regional cooperation, promoting “green” energy, developing infrastructure, and strengthening trade and economic ties.

The delegation of Tajikistan participated in the Senior Officials Meeting of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Programme CAREC-2026, which took place in Ulaanbaatar, reports the press service of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Tajikistan was represented at the event by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma and the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan on Economic Issues Ne’matullo Hikmatullozoda.

According to the agency, the meetings discussed issues of strengthening regional cooperation, sustainable economic development, energy integration, infrastructure development, digitalization, expansion of transport and logistics links, and the promotion of the “green” agenda in the CAREC region.

Special attention was paid to energy. As reported by the ministry’s press service, Daler Juma spoke at a side event dedicated to the issues of the “green” transition and regional energy cooperation.

He noted that for Tajikistan, ensuring energy security, developing “green” energy, and expanding cooperation with countries in the region are of strategic importance.

According to the minister, Tajikistan’s experience shows that hydropower can become one of the key foundations for sustainable industrial, infrastructure, and environmental development in the CAREC region. It is also considered an important factor for long-term energy sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.

Tajikistan confirmed its support for the development of cross-border energy infrastructure and the implementation of regional projects, including CASA-1000. Such initiatives, as noted, contribute to strengthening energy security, expanding electricity trade, and forming a sustainable energy space in Central and South Asia.

During the visit, Daler Juma also met with the Minister of Energy of Mongolia Naidalaa Badrakh. The parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation, including the development of renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and exchanging experiences.

The ministers emphasized the importance of the practical implementation of the memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Energy of Mongolia, signed in July 2025 in Dushanbe.

Additionally, Daler Juma held a meeting with the head of the Water Resources Agency of Mongolia Zeneemyadarin Batbayar. The parties discussed strengthening cooperation in water resource management, rational water use, environmental protection, and experience exchange.

The minister spoke about Tajikistan’s water resources, the country’s water and climate policy, as well as Dushanbe’s international initiatives in this direction. The parties also exchanged views on the outcomes of the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028,” which took place in May in Dushanbe.

Following participation in the CAREC-2026 events, Tajikistan confirmed its interest in expanding regional cooperation, promoting “green” energy, developing infrastructure, and strengthening trade and economic ties.

CAREC (Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Programme) is a program of regional economic cooperation in Central Asia, established in 2001 at the initiative of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
