Seven Tajik children, who had been living in Russia without guardians, were returned to Tajikistan on December 23, according to the Tajik Embassy in Moscow. This repatriation was carried out under an agreement between the CIS member nations.

Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 52 Tajik minors who had been left without supervision in Russia have been repatriated to their home country. The reasons for the children’s abandonment were not disclosed.

Earlier this year, three other minors who had been abandoned in Russia were also returned to Tajikistan, Tajikistan’s Consulate in St. Petersburg says. These children were sent home on October 23 under the CIS agreement concerning the repatriation of minors to their countries of permanent residence.

The reasons behind the children’s abandonment and the timeline of events were not clarified by the Tajik Consulate in St. Petersburg at the time of the earlier repatriation.

Tajik diplomatic missions in Russia regularly repatriate minors who, for various reasons, find themselves without guardians in the country. The primary causes of such situations often include abandonment in maternity hospitals, parents being under investigation, issues with documentation, or the death of parents.
