Tajik President Emomali Rahmon held a telephone conversation with his Uzbek counterpart, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on Friday, July 24, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
At the start of the conversation, Rahmon congratulated Mirziyoyev on his birthday and wished him good health and continued success in his public service.
The two leaders reportedly discussed the current state of Tajik-Uzbek relations, including their strategic partnership and alliance.
Rahmon reaffirmed Tajikistan’s readiness to continue expanding cooperation with Uzbekistan in a spirit of friendship and good-neighborliness, the statement said.
The presidents also coordinated a schedule of upcoming meetings and contacts on the sidelines of international and regional events and exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
Regular contacts between the two leaders are considered an important part of strengthening the allied relationship between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Rahmon and Mirziyoyev last met in person during the Tajik president’s state visit to Uzbekistan on March 26–27, 2026. Following the visit, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their strategic partnership and alliance and signed a number of bilateral documents.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who was born on July 24, 1957, has served as Uzbekistan’s second president since 2016. A member of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, he served as prime minister under President Islam Karimov from 2003 to 2016. Uzbekistan held the rotating chairmanship of the Organization of Turkic States from November 2022 to November 2023.
