More than 460 Tajik performers owe 1.4 million somoni in taxes

More than 460 performers in Tajikistan have accumulated tax debts totaling over 1.4 million somoni, according to the country’s Tax Committee.

As of July 1, 2026, a total of 1,628 creative professionals subject to taxation were registered with the authorities. During the first half of the year, they paid 2.442 million somoni into the state budget.

The registered taxpayers include 167 singers, 756 musicians and dancers, 472 photographers and videographers, and 233 hosts of weddings, celebrations and cultural events.

Tax Committee Chairman Nusratullo Davlatzoda previously expressed concern over the growing level of debt among performers. At a press conference, he instructed committee officials to provide the media with a list of those who had failed to meet their tax obligations.

The committee has previously published lists of prominent performers with outstanding tax debts. In 2024, several popular Tajik singers appeared on such a list, although many rejected the claims and said they paid their taxes regularly.

Under a government resolution, creative professionals in Tajikistan are required to register with the tax authorities and pay taxes on their income.

The category includes singers, musicians, dancers, wedding and event hosts, photographers, videographers, and people providing decoration services for wedding processions and celebrations.
