“In the end, they made me the guilty one.” Beaten teacher in Nurabad wants to leave the profession after the fine

The court fined teacher Mukhimjon Rakhmonov 1560 somoni (20 calculated indicators) after he complained that he was beaten by the brother of one of his students. Mirali Orzuyev, against whom the teacher filed a complaint, was sentenced to 5 days of administrative arrest. The teacher disagrees with the court’s decision and states that he will “leave the profession”.

As Mukhimjon Rakhmonov reported on June 4 in an interview with “Asia-Plus,” the decision of the Nurabad district court regarding him and Orzuyev was made on June 3. The authorities have not officially announced the decision.

According to him, the court found him guilty of “improper performance of duties in educating and raising a child.” However, he disagrees with this decision and intends to appeal it in higher courts.

Rakhmonov is also dissatisfied with the court’s decision regarding Orzuyev and believes that the punishment is too lenient:

«The prosecutor stated in its conclusion that there are no signs of a crime in the actions of Mirali Orzuyev. He was found guilty only of petty hooliganism under Article 460 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. At the hearing, he stated that he had only slapped me once, and denied everything else. Neither the head of the district education department nor representatives of the Ministry of Education were present in court,» the teacher emphasized.

Orzuyev’s position regarding the court’s decision, as well as the opinions of the student’s relatives in this case, are unknown. Attempts by journalists to obtain their comments were unsuccessful.

The teacher noted that his financial situation does not allow him to pay the fine at this time. He asked the court for a deferment until he receives his salary. However, he was informed that he has 10 days to pay the fine, and after this period, the amount will increase for each day of delay.

Earlier, Rakhmonov reported that he returned to work at the school on June 2, but he had not been paid for the 15 days he missed due to treatment after the incident.

According to the teacher, after the court’s decision, he has become completely disillusioned with his profession:

“When I was in my fifth year of study and came to a school for practical training, I placed my hand on the Constitution of Tajikistan and pledged to serve honestly and conscientiously. But now my hands have dropped; I want to leave teaching completely. As people wrote on social media, ‘in the end, the teacher is made the culprit’ — and that has indeed proven to be true.”

He also expressed regret that the Ministry of Education and Science of the country, whose representatives had previously promised to support him, essentially provided him with no assistance during the proceedings.

The story received widespread public resonance after the teacher published a video appeal on social media. In it, he recounted that on the evening of May 8, the brother of one of his students beat him and threatened to kill him after a remark regarding the sister’s academic performance. The teacher named the attacker as Mirali Orzuyev.

Orzuyev himself denied the fact of the beating and claimed that they only had a conversation. The case sparked widespread discussion in society and demands for punishment of the guilty party.

However, two days ago, the teacher reported that after a complaint from Makhmadrizo Orzuyev — the father of the student whose academic performance he had previously complained about to her brother — an administrative case was opened against him. Additionally, according to Rakhmonov, he has also been complained about by the parents of another student.

The teacher admitted that he indeed used “only one rude expression” towards Orzuyev’s daughter, but he rejects the accusations from the parents of the other student.
