Evacuation of injured Russian tourist from Pamirs delayed by two days

Russian tourist Igor Bayer, who injured his legs while descending from the Turamis-1 Pass in Tajikistan’s Pamir Mountains, is expected to be flown to Dushanbe on July 26.

His condition is described as stable, and he is able to move independently, Jamshed Kamolzoda, head of the Crisis Management Center at Tajikistan’s Committee for Emergency Situations, told Asia-Plus.

According to Kamolzoda, tour group leader Sergei Nasedkin said the injured tourist would be evacuated from the Moskvina plateau on a scheduled flight operated by the private airline Shohin Airlines.

The evacuation had initially been planned for July 24. The Committee for Emergency Situations had prepared rescuers, a helicopter and an ambulance to transport Bayer to Dushanbe, where he was expected to receive treatment at the Istiqlol medical complex.

However, the emergency flight was cancelled after the tourist’s condition improved. The group decided to wait for the scheduled helicopter flight instead.

The Committee for Emergency Situations received information about the incident on July 18.

According to the agency, a group of five Russian tourists was descending from the Turamis-1 Pass when the 22-year-old Bayer fell and injured his legs.

The group is currently on the Moskvina plateau at an altitude of about 4,200–4,300 metres above sea level.

Officials said the situation remains under constant observation and the evacuation arrangements have been coordinated with the group leader.
