Dushanbe has been selected to host the 2027 Asian and Oceania Sambo Championships, one of the region’s major continental competitions.
The Sambo Union of Asia and Oceania (SUAO) has officially approved Tajikistan’s bid to stage the tournament in May 2027, according to the Sambo Federation of Tajikistan.
An official source within the Sambo Federation of Tajikistan told Asia-Plus that the federation had received an official SUAO letter dated August 6 confirming approval of the application. The championships will be held at the Tennis and Water Sports Complex in Dushanbe.
The 2027 event will bring together several age and competition categories within a single tournament.
Adult men and women will compete in both sport sambo and combat sambo, while junior athletes will take part in the same disciplines. Youth boys and girls will compete in sport sambo.
Dushanbe will also host a continental championship for masters, with male veteran athletes competing in sport sambo.
The Sambo Federation of Tajikistan described the event as significant for the country, noting that for the first time, adult, junior, youth and veteran competitions will be held together as part of one major continental sambo tournament in Tajikistan.
The exact dates of the championships have not yet been announced, although the event is scheduled for May 2027.
