Syrian Parliament’s Opening Session Set for Post-Eid; Sharaa’s Appointee List Finalized

A senior Syrian official told Al-Modon that the opening session of the Syrian People’s Assembly is scheduled to convene after the Eid al-Adha holiday. The timing allows authorities to complete the remaining parliamentary seats assigned to districts in Al-Hassakeh governorate and the Ain al-Arab (Kobani) region.

Suweida  Seats Still Vacant

According to the source, the list of 70 members to be appointed directly by President Ahmad al-Sharaa “is now ready” and will be formally announced in the coming days.

As for the seats allocated to Suweida  governorate, the source confirmed they will remain vacant until security conditions allow elections to be held there.

Once the final results for Hassakeh, Qamishli, and Ain al-Arab are certified and the appeals period ends, only three seats — those reserved for Suweida  — will remain unfilled before the Assembly reaches its full statutory quorum.

Winners Declared in Hassakeh and Ain al-Arab

Meanwhile, the Supreme Judicial Elections Committee released the names of the winning candidates in the electoral districts of Hassakeh, Qamishli, and Ain al-Arab (Kobani).

The Committee reported that turnout within the electoral colleges reached 138 out of 150 eligible members at the Hassakeh center, and 168 out of 198 at the Qamishli center. It added that 12 candidates competed for 3 seats in the first center, 7 candidates contested 4 seats in the second, and 13 candidates vied for 3 seats in Ain al-Arab in the Aleppo countryside.

Committee spokesperson Nawar Najma said the path is now clear for the People’s Assembly to hold its inaugural session once voting concludes in these districts and the presidential appointees — who make up one-third of the parliament — are announced.

Najma added that the electoral process in Hassakeh and Ain al-Arab was successful, noting that “the residents of these regions have shown genuine political will to participate in the process and contribute to building Syria’s legislative institutions.”

Under the Provisional Constitutional Declaration, the Syrian People’s Assembly consists of 210 members: 140 elected indirectly through electoral colleges and 70 appointed directly by the President of the Republic. The legislative term is set at 30 months, with the possibility of extension.
