Syria Denies Aleppo Attacks After Deadly Patrol Ambush

Syria’s Ministry of Interior on Tuesday rejected reports claiming that security and military checkpoints had come under attack in the Aleppo countryside, even as officials confirmed that four road security officers were killed in an armed ambush in Hama province.

The security developments coincided with a joint press conference in Damascus, where Foreign Minister Asaad al‑Shibani and Sabrina Dallafior, Director‑General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), outlined what they described as substantial advances in resolving the chemical weapons dossier inherited from the former Assad regime.

Security Escalations and Official Denials

The Media Department of the Syrian Ministry of Interior issued a formal statement dismissing circulating reports of armed assaults on security and military positions in rural Aleppo.

The denial came hours after a fatal attack on a road security patrol along the Salamiyah–Athriya highway. Ministry spokesperson Noureddine al‑Baba confirmed the incident, mourning the four officers killed when two patrols were struck in rural Hama.

Local accounts indicated that several personnel were wounded and transferred to Salamiyah National Hospital, prompting heightened security measures across the surrounding areas.

“This crime will not deter us from continuing to pursue criminals and bring them to justice,” al‑Baba said. “It will only strengthen our resolve to fulfill our duty in safeguarding citizens and protecting lives.”
