SSCAA begins drainage rehabilitation, perimeter fencing at Juba International Airport

JUBA, South Sudan – The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority has commenced drainage rehabilitation and perimeter fencing projects at Juba International Airport to improve operational safety and strengthen security at the country’s main international gateway.

The projects began on Tuesday 13 October, 2026 under the leadership of the Authority’s newly appointed Director General, Engineer Mosety Kat Monyjok, less than a month after his appointment on September 22.

In a statement, Kat said the drainage rehabilitation would help maintain safe and reliable airport operations during the rainy season, when water accumulation can pose challenges to airport infrastructure.

“Proper drainage will keep operations safe and dependable through the rainy season,” he said.

He added that the perimeter fence would improve security around the airport, protecting passengers, staff, aircraft and cargo from potential security threats.

“The fence will strengthen security for passengers, staff, aircraft and cargo,” Kat said.

The Director General said the two projects were also intended to increase confidence among the airport’s partners and other stakeholders.

“Both projects will give our partners and stakeholders greater confidence in our national gateway,” he said.

Kat was accompanied by the management of Juba International Airport and the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority during the commencement of the works.

He expressed appreciation for their commitment to improving the airport’s infrastructure and operational standards.

The projects form part of broader efforts to modernize Juba International Airport, improve aviation safety and enhance the experience of passengers using the facility.

Juba International Airport is South Sudan’s principal international gateway and an important entry point for humanitarian operations, trade and international travel.
