Kiir sends condolences to Tanzania’s President over husband’s death

President Salva Kiir has sent condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.

The Tanzanian First Gentleman died on Monday from a heart condition while receiving treatment at a hospital in Zanzibar.

In a statement, President Kiir said he was deeply saddened by the death and conveyed his condolences to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania.

“On behalf of my family, the Government and the people of the Republic of South Sudan, I convey my deepest condolences to President Suluhu, her family, and the people of the United Republic of Tanzania who are affected by his passing,” he said in statement issued on Monday.

President Kiir said the people of South Sudan stand in solidarity with Tanzanians during the period of mourning.

He also prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and the people of Tanzania during what he described as a difficult moment for the country and the region.
