The Director General of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority says the newly inaugurated air traffic system will increase aviation safety and improve revenue collection.

Dr Ayiei Garang made the remarks during the launching of a new Air Traffic Management System and the Juba Control Tower in Juba on Monday.

Dr Garang described the new air traffic management system as one of the most advanced aviation systems in Africa.

“This system is one of the best and most advanced systems in Africa. And it includes advanced air navigation system, one in Wau and another one in Malakal. We have six radars. We have three primary radar and three secondary radar. That make it more advanced system in all entire Africa,” he said.

He said the new infrastructure includes advanced air navigation systems in Wau and Malakal, as well as six radars.

“The country that competing with us is South Africa. We have advanced communication system. We have advanced weather observation system in Malakand. Your Excellency, this system improves aviation safety. It will strengthen airspace monitoring. It will improve regulatory oversight. Most importantly, it will increase our revenue system,” he added.

Dr Garang added that the system also features advanced communication and weather observation technologies to improve aviation operations and regulatory oversight.

According to him, the Air Traffic Management System had remained inactive for more than four years despite the country’s need for proper airspace management and aviation safety.

He further called for continued support to strengthen airbase and security systems to protect the country’s airspace sovereignty.
