The Archbishop of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan has called for peace and reconciliation as the country prepares to celebrate Christmas.
In a statement issued ahead of Christmas, Archbishop Justin Badi Arama urged South Sudanese to open their hearts and welcome the birth of Jesus with peace and joy.
“As we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, we give thanks for the priceless gift of God’s love made flesh among us. This celebration finds our nation facing harsh economic challenges, widespread insecurity in many parts of the country, and delays in the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement,” he said.
“Yet, Christmas reminds us that light shines in the darkness, hope is renewed, and peace is offered to all humanity,” he added.
Archbishop Badi encouraged citizens not to lose hope despite the economic hardship and insecurity in the country, saying Christmas should be a time for light to shine in the darkness.
He also appealed to the public to celebrate Christmas and the New Year peacefully.
“We pray that in all your celebrations, the spirit of true reconciliation, peace, and joy may be renewed in each of you. May the newborn Christ fill your hearts and homes with His peace and love. We wish you a blessed and joyful Christmas and a New Year 2026 filled with God’s grace,” he said.
