Trucks of food supplies packed in Unity State. [Photo: Courtesy]BENTIU – Unity State has received a major boost in humanitarian support following the arrival of 30 trucks loaded with assorted food supplies, aimed at addressing growing food insecurity in the oil-rich region.
The convoy, which arrived on Wednesday, is carrying essential food items including sorghum and other basic commodities.
The item is intended to support vulnerable communities affected by ongoing economic hardship and insecurity.
A statement issued by the Office of Unity State Governor, Dr Joseph Manytuil, said the trucks were carrying 25,000 sacks of sorghum purchased by the state government to help address the food crisis in the state.
“The office of the Governor of Unity State is pleased to announce the arrival of the first consignment of food items in the State Capital, Bentiu, as part of Governor Dr Joseph Manytuil ‘s broader response to the prevalence of food crisis in the State,” read part of the statement.
It said the arrival of the 30 trucks marks one of the latest efforts to respond to humanitarian needs in Unity State.
“The fleet of 30 Trucks loaded with sacks of sorghum, a portion of 25,000 sacks of sorghum procured under the instructions of Governor Dr Joseph Manytuil, is currently being offloaded into the State government ‘s warehouse in Bentiu.”
It said assorted food supplies aimed at addressing growing food insecurity in the state.
“The administration of H.E., Dr Joseph Manytuil Wejang is moving from Promises to action, taking proactive measures to address extreme food insecurity in the State,” it said.
It added that the Office of the Governor will promptly update the public on the status of food distribution once the logistical arrangements are completed.
“The Office of the Governor appreciates the people of Unity State for their perseverance, resilience, and confidence in the leadership of Governor Dr Joseph Manytuil Wejang.”
The Unity State continues to struggle due to the combined effects of conflict, flooding, and limited access to livelihoods.
