South Korea’s record job gains hide a worsening youth employment crisis

Youth jobs fell for 16th straight month in August, underscoring structural issues that Seoul’s AI push can’t mask

South Korea recorded historic employment highs in August, but the data also confirmed a deepening youth employment crisis that the government is attempting to reframe through its artificial intelligence (AI) agenda.

The number of employed people rose by 166,000 year-on-year, marking the eighth consecutive month of double-digit gains, while participation and employment rates reached record levels for August.
