South Korea’s AI megaprojects face their biggest threat: physical reality

The Lee Jae Myung administration’s June 29 announcement of the $1 trillion (1,558 trillion won) “Three Mega Projects” success or failure will be determined by whether the state can overcome the physical, financial and demographic constraints to execute the massive infrastructure expansion.

By establishing a dedicated support task force on Wednesday under senior lawmakers, the ruling Democratic Party (DP) has signaled that the legal mechanisms required to fast-track these industrial clusters will move through the National Assembly with minimal resistance.

Consequently, the fundamental challenge that the Lee administration faces is the unprecedented friction points inherent in the blueprint.
