South Korea tightens single-stock leverage rules after rapid market surge

South Korea will sharply tighten access to single-stock leveraged exchange-traded products less than two months after their launch, the Financial Services Commission said Thursday. The minimum deposit will rise from $6,760 (10 million won), which could include eligible securities, to around $20,300 (30 million won) in cash, while the minimum trading unit will increase from one share to 20. The new cash requirement will apply to both domestically and overseas-listed products, while stocks, bonds and other securities will no longer count toward the threshold.

The FSC will also suspend new listings, ban advertising and promotional campaigns, extend mandatory investor education
