South Korea links energy, minerals and defense in Indonesia state visit push

MOUs on LNG and minerals align with KF-21 demand as Hormuz disruption forces coordinated supply and delivery strategy

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung held talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday during the latter’s state visit, where the two sides agreed to upgrade bilateral ties to a “Special Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” and signed a series of agreements in the presence of both leaders. The agreements include a Korea-Indonesia Economic Cooperation 2.0 memorandum of understanding (MOU), a critical minerals cooperation MOU, a digital development cooperation MOU and an offshore plant service industry cooperation MOU.

The two countries agreed to expand cooperation across trade and investment, energy including liquefied natural gas (LNG), critical minerals and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, as well as industrial sectors including offshore services. They also agreed to establish institutional mechanisms including a standing consultative body to address economic issues and a joint committee on digital development cooperation, alongside measures covering supply chain coordination, workforce development and industrial collaboration.
