South Korea fast-tracks India ties with three high-level contacts in two months

Seoul deepens strategic outreach as US-India tensions mount, signaling new opportunities and risks for trade and defense

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi on Saturday. The two ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation on supply chains, critical technologies and defense industry ties, while also committing to advance talks on upgrading the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. They also pledged to expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges as the two countries mark the 10th anniversary of their “special strategic partnership.”

The meeting followed President Lee Jae-myung’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 gathering in Canada on June 17 and the July 17-18 visit to India by Lee’s special envoy, former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum.
