Seoul formally points to Iranian missile in Hormuz strike on South Korean vessel

South Korea said Wednesday that technical analysis concluded the HMM Namu was likely struck by an Iranian-origin Noor-series anti-ship missile earlier this month near the Strait of Hormuz, marking Seoul’s strongest public attribution yet in the investigation into the May 4 attack. First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo said recovered debris showed Iranian manufacturer markings, characteristics associated with Iran’s Toloue-4 engine and a warhead shape resembling the Noor or its upgraded Qader variant. Seoul summoned Iranian Ambassador Saeed Koozechi, requested measures to prevent a recurrence and asked for an apology.
