M.AX alliance emerges as industrial signal inside a Cabinet-backed rollout centered on household relief
South Korea’s government on Wednesday rolled out a wide-ranging package of policies set to take effect in 2026, aimed at easing household burdens and strengthening economic resilience, following discussions at a Cabinet meeting. The Ministry of Economy and Finance said the package spans tax relief, welfare, labor, transport and regional development measures, alongside initiatives intended to support long-term industrial competitiveness.
As part of the package, the government unveiled the Manufacturing AI Transformation (M.AX) Alliance, a public-private initiative designed to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence across core manufacturing sectors. Officials said 1,300 companies, including Samsung Electronics, LG and HD Hyundai, will participate in the alliance, which targets a 30% productivity gain and a 20% reduction in production costs by 2030 through the rollout of up to 500 AI-enabled factories, focusing on areas such as semiconductors, robotics and autonomous shipping.
