South Korea on Wednesday unveiled seven long-term technology projects spanning clean energy, quantum computing, space and aerospace, biotechnology and supply chains, as President Lee Jae Myung’s government seeks new growth engines beyond its existing semiconductor, physical AI and data center mega projects. The government said the Strategic Emerging Engines for Disruptive (SEED) innovation initiative will target technologies that could underpin growth over the next 10 to 20 years, including a 100-qubit domestic quantum computer by 2029, commercial light-water small modular reactors (SMRs) by 2035 and an independent low-Earth-orbit satellite communications network by 2035.
