South Africa’s newest multimillionaire – the R163 million PowerBall jackpot winner from the Western Cape – could have afforded to buy Black Coffee’s recently purchased R157 million Clifton mansion and still have R6 million to spare.
The comparison between the two massive fortunes has sparked fascination online, with social media users joking that the mystery lottery winner “could have been Black Coffee’s new neighbour – or even bought the house out from under him.”

The unnamed winner purchased his ticket via the Nedbank banking app for just R30, using a combination of Quick Pick and personally chosen numbers based on family birthdays.
He initially thought he had won R10 before realising the life-changing total of R163 552 190.60.
Meanwhile, Grammy Award-winning DJ and producer Black Coffee, whose real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo, recently made headlines for buying one of South Africa’s most luxurious homes – the five-storey “Pentagon” villa in Clifton, Cape Town – for R157 million, reportedly paid in cash.
The property, designed by architect Stefan Antoni, features five en-suite bedrooms, a private cinema, a gym, and a rim-flow infinity pool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
