Power outage to affect nine Johannesburg suburbs

Nine suburbs in Johannesburg will experience a power outage on Thursday, 18 June 2026, and on Monday, 22 June 2026. 

City Power Johannesburg, a power utility, said in a statement that the outage was implemented to do maintenance work on its electricity network. 

The power utility does maintenance work to ensure better service provision. 

POWER OUTAGE TO AFFECT NINE SUBURBS

Three suburbs will have a power outage on Thursday, 18 June 2026, from 9:00 to 17:00 at Gazelle Road, Lechwe Road and Reedbuck Crescent.

On Monday, 22 June 2026, from 9:00 to 17:00, the outage will occur at Capitol Hill, Morkel Close, African Data Centre, Parts of Richards Drive, Parts of Le-Roux Avenue and Parts of Old Pretoria Road. 

“As the supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live. City Power regrets any inconvenience that may be caused by this interruption,” the statement read. 

MINISTER OF ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY RAMOKGOPA HONOURED WITH LIFETIME AWARD 

The Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award. He was presented with the award at the Africa Energy Forum (AEF2026) in Cape Town on Tuesday, 16 June 2026. The award was presented to Ramokgopa for ending load-shedding and ensuring sustainable energy security for South Africa. 

“Eskom was rated the best electricity utility in 2001. We have a rich history of about 103 years of engineering expertise. We have built the biggest fleet of power-generating units on the continent. We have 42 000 men and women who have made this possible,” he said in a video posted by the Department of Electricity and Power on X.
