Carte Blanche coming up: Wrath of the Breede

The Sunday, 31 May episode of Carte Blanche investigates the devastating impact of the floods that swept through the historic Robertson Wine Valley after the Breede River burst its banks in mid-May.

The disaster left mud-caked wine cellars, uprooted trellises, submerged vineyards and claimed multiple lives, bringing generations of farming heritage to a standstill within hours.

However, as the floodwaters receded, the focus shifted from destruction to recovery, with farmers, residents and businesses uniting to rebuild one of South Africa’s most renowned wine-producing regions.

The programme explores the scale of the damage and how the community is working to recover from one of the worst disasters in its history.
