Several Canadian sports commentators have called out their match-up against Bafana Bafana as an “easy” option in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32.
The countries – which have both never made it out of the group stages – go head-to-head on Sunday, 28 June, at the Los Angeles Stadium.
CANADA CLAIM SOUTH AFRICA IS ‘EASY PICKINGS’ IN RO3 MATCH
On his social media platform, Canadian streamer Straw Hats Off has shared his polarising views on the match-up between his country and South Africa in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32.
Referring to Canada’s match with Bafana Bafana, he said: “Talk about blessings. You couldn’t have asked for an easier team to play. Out of all the teams, South Africa is the one you want. They are one of the lowest-ranked teams in the tournament”.
He continued: “Even watching them play football, they are nothing to brag about. Canada, we should make the Round of 16
In another clip posted on social media, a Canadian TSN presenter says during a live feed: “This is a gift for Canada, no question about it. Canada are the favourites”.
Others on social media shared similar sentiments.

COACH PRAISES BAFANA BAFANA
Despite the rest of his country trash-talking South Africa, Canada’s head coach, Jesse Marsch, has remained humble and even complimentary toward their rivals.
Marsh described Bafana Bafana as “strong” and “having good character”.
He said of their team’s opponents: “They’ve shown they’re a very good team. They’re well organised, disciplined and dangerous in transition. This won’t be an easy win.
“There’s going to be a lot of skill on the pitch”.
