Hargeisa (WDN) – The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Cirro, has publicly praised former Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Rooble for acknowledging the achievements of Somaliland, following recent remarks by Rooble highlighting challenges faced by the Somali government in relation to the self-declared administration.
President Cirro congratulated Rooble for his recognition of Somaliland’s progress and emphasized the right of the region to pursue its independence.
“I congratulate Somali politicians who have recognized that Somaliland has achieved significant accomplishments and has the right to its independence, led by former Somali Prime Minister Rooble. To others, I say follow the path of those who have chosen the right approach,” Cirro said.
In his remarks, Cirro also criticized certain Somali politicians who, he claims, are opposed to peace and stability in Somaliland. He alleged that some have even suggested supporting Al Shabab to destabilize the region.
It is also important to note that during President Farmaajo’s term, when Prime Minister Roble was in office, Somaliland authorities frequently publicized and claimed that while he was working as an advisor for the UN-ILO, Roble had been expelled from Somaliland on corruption-related grounds.
President Cirro’s comments come amid ongoing political tension between Somaliland and the Somali Federal Government, particularly concerning the Somali unity and the establishment of Northeast State, highlighting the enduring disputes over recognition, governance, and security in the Horn of Africa.
