Mr. Michael Samani and Ms. Annalise Fa’abasua, who represent the Solomon Islands, have joined young, aspiring leaders from all around the Commonwealth for the week-long program with the topic “Democracy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
Solomon Islands’ representatives to the 13th Commonwealth Youth Parliament (CYP) are now ready to take part in the parliamentary debates and proceedings following the successful completion of orientation and preparatory sessions at the Parliament of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
Representing the Solomon Islands are Mr. Michael Samani and Ms. Annalise Fa’abasua, who have joined young aspiring leaders from across the Commonwealth for the week-long programme under the theme “Democracy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
Having completed the programme’s induction activities, the Solomon Islands delegates will now participate in chamber debates, committee deliberations and parliamentary business alongside their Commonwealth counterparts, providing them with practical experience of parliamentary democracy, legislative processes and leadership.
Prior to their departure, Mr. Samani and Ms. Fa’abasua underwent a comprehensive mentoring programme coordinated by the National Parliament’s Public Engagement and Communication Department through its Civic Education Unit. The programme included sessions facilitated by the Procedure Department, Committee Secretariat, Research Unit and ICT Department, equipping the delegates with the knowledge and skills required to effectively participate in the Commonwealth Youth Parliament.
The Commonwealth Youth Parliament provides an important platform for emerging young leaders to strengthen their understanding of parliamentary governance, public leadership and democratic institutions while fostering lasting professional networks across the Commonwealth.
The National Parliament of Solomon Islands extends its best wishes to Mr. Samani and Ms. Fa’abasua as they proudly represent the country during the parliamentary debates and looks forward to the valuable knowledge and experience they will bring home to further strengthen youth engagement and parliamentary democracy in Solomon Islands.
