Pacific communities came together at the Top of the Crop in Ayr/North Townsville on Sunday, 12 July 2026, for a colourful Multicultural Independence Celebration honouring the independence anniversaries of Pacific nations through culture, unity, and shared heritage.

Seasonal workers and their families filled the venue with colour, proudly wearing traditional attire and national flag designs as they showcased cultural dances and performances. Representatives from the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Samoa, Timor‑Leste, and Papua New Guinea joined in a lively display of Pacific identity and pride.

Speaking on behalf of the seasonal workers, Vanuatu representative Jerry said the gathering was a moment to reflect on each nation’s journey while strengthening regional unity.

“This celebration makes us look back to our foundation and remember where we started. Togetherness shows the spirit of cooperation , we are stronger when we work as one team,” he said.

Top of the Crop Manager Samantha acknowledged the dedication of seasonal workers and the cultural richness they bring to the community.

“Each nation has its own traditions and culture, and today we celebrate together as one team and family. This event recognises the cultures and achievements of every country represented here,” she said.

Committee leader Mama Roselyn said it was inspiring to witness people from different Pacific nations standing together in celebration.

Representing the Solomon Islands, Timothy Magusi said marking the country’s 48th Independence Anniversary alongside neighbouring Pacific nations was a proud moment.

“It’s good to see all different countries come together and celebrate. To showcase the culture , it’s beautiful with uniqueness,” he said.

The Multicultural Independence Celebration highlighted the diversity, friendship, and unity shared across Pacific communities, reminding everyone that while each nation carries its own history and traditions, they are stronger when they celebrate and support one another.
