Opposition Leader on ministers’ overseas trip

Opposition Leader Matthew Wale has expressed with deep concern the increasing number of overseas trips undertaken by government ministers this year which have contributed to their lack of performance in office.

Wale raised his concern in Parliament on Monday morning during the Sine Die Motion moved by the Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele.

“I would also add that the level of overseas travel by GNUT has been exceptionally high.

“This too has contributed to this lack of productivity. I was told that overseas travel by some ministers was without the information, let alone the consent of the Prime Minister.

“If true, this is just terrible and wrong.”

Furthermore, he added, that his office has received reports of ministers not turning up to office.

“This behavior leaves Permanent Secretaries in the awkward position of not receiving political guidance on policy, and is a contributory to this low productivity by GNUT.”

He told the Prime Minister that the people of Solomon Islands expect him to put his foot down and impose discipline on ministers.
