Anglican youths from across the Diocese of Central Melanesia came together for a combined fellowship held at Christ the King Church in Gilbert Camp, Honiara.
The event began on Sunday, August 3, with praise and worship, as youth groups from different parishes arrived. The fellowship is part of Diocese of Central Melanesia (DOCM) Youth’s vision to help young people grow in their faith, know Christ personally, and become positive role models in their communities.
“We want to raise young people who know Christ in their lives and who can also reach out to others through fellowship and the sharing of God’s Word,” said DOCM Youth Chairman, Casper Tamani.
Youths from Christ the King Parish led the service with uplifting worship songs and a powerful skit that portrayed how today’s youth can be easily influenced by worldly activities. The drama showed how temptation and negative influences can lead young people away from God, but also reminded everyone of the hope found in Christ.
Fr. John Ashley, Rector of Christ the King Parish, shared a short reflection focusing on the theme of Confession. He reminded the youths about the importance of recognizing right from wrong and returning to God.
Fr. John Ashley, Rector of Christ the King Parish, shared a short reflection focusing on the theme of Confession.
“Confession is a very important part of our church teaching, but sometimes we don’t talk about it enough,” Fr. Ashley said. “Now is the time to understand its meaning and how it helps us grow spiritually.”
He added that understanding confession helps young people make better choices and strengthens their relationship with God.
“We must teach our youth the significance of confession so they can live good lives and reflect God’s character in their families, communities, and the nation,” he said.
Fr. Ashley also encouraged the youths to be role models and agents of change in the Solomon Islands.
“You are the future of this nation. Make decisions today that will save and build up the next generation,” he urged.
The program ended with worship presentations that moved many hearts, especially those familiar with charismatic and evangelical styles of praise.
Youth Advisor Leslie Toena from Christ the King Parish also shared words of encouragement.
“I call on every Anglican youth in Honiara to be part of our diocesan youth ministry,” Toena said. “It will help you grow spiritually and guide you as young men and women who can transform our nation.”
Casper Tamani later thanked everyone for attending.
“Thank you all for your willingness to come. I know the message shared today will help you make the right choices in life,” he said.
The DOCM youth team is now preparing for more activities and fellowships in the coming months, with hopes of reaching more young people across the capital and beyond.
