Sport is an important part of a healthy and fulfilling life, while also bringing people together, promoting inclusion and strengthening the values of cooperation, perseverance and respect. The Day of Slovenian Sport is therefore a celebration of elite athletes, coaches, sports professionals, volunteers and sports clubs, as well as everyone who makes physical activity part of their everyday lives.

“In sport, we no longer ask ourselves whether we are great enough to compete at the very top of the world. Let us bring the same winning mindset to other areas as well,” emphasises Minister of the Economy, Labour and Sport Dr Anže Logar.

In 2026, the Ministry is continuing its systemic support for sport – from sports programmes and professional work to investment in sports infrastructure and the promotion of physical activity among the population. This year, EUR 19.5 million has been allocated for the implementation of the annual sports programme, with an additional EUR 2.9 million earmarked for national and municipal sports schools specialising in individual sports.

The Let’s Get Moving and Start Exercising project also contributes to increasing physical activity among the population by enabling adults to take part in free, professionally supervised exercise programmes. Through the Active and Inclusive project, we are also promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities in sport and regular physical activity.

The Day of Slovenian Sport is an opportunity to once again emphasise the importance of sport and regular physical activity for health, well-being and quality of life.
